Global consumption of table salt - the primary source of Sodium in the diet - is very high, prompting nutrition groups around the world to call on the food industry to replace table salt with a reduced-Sodium, high-Potassium substitute. The call follows a recent study by The New England Journal of Medicine. The researchers found that those who used salt substitutes with less Sodium had a significantly lower risk of hypertension, stroke and premature death.
